Linden Accountants is an accountancy practice based in the South West

We specialise in a wide range of services, including bookkeeping, payroll, statutory accounts and credit control. By using us, you effectively gain a finance department without having to spend time and money on employing extra staff or buying expensive accountancy software.

We make the management of your business finances smoother, safer and more efficient, leaving you to concentrate on running and developing your core business.

Please look around the site for more information about us and the services we provide. If you require further information or would like to arrange a meeting, please visit the ‘contact us’ page.

Sole Trader?

As a sole trader, you must submit a self-assessment tax return to HMRC every year before the 31 January deadline. This will be based on the profits of your business at year end, plus any other income you earn elsewhere.

If your turnover is above the VAT threshold, then you will be required to submit a VAT Return to HMRC every quarter. And if you employ staff, then you will need to run a reliable payroll every month, as well as operate an auto enrolment pension scheme.

We can help with all of this. We ensure that your tax return is completed well before the deadline so that no penalties are incurred, and check that all your forms of income are included. We produce and submit your VAT Returns. We run staff payroll reliably and in plenty of time for payday. We help you do things the right way.

We can also advise you on whether it would be more beneficial in your circumstances to remain as a sole trader or switch to a Limited Company.

Our fees are competitive and include all meetings, phone calls and emails, so when you talk to us, you will never feel like you’re on the clock.

We can provide the following bookkeeping services:

  • Inputting customer and supplier invoices, cheque receipts and payments.
  • Bank reconciliations.
  • Invoice production.
  • Making payments to suppliers.
  • Producing aged debtors and creditors lists.
  • Credit control services, using pre-agreed strategies.
  • Monthly management reporting, including profit and loss and balance sheet.
  • Budgets and monthly budget comparisons.
  • Year-end accounts.
  • VAT return production and submission.

Our monthly bookkeeping fees are based on the volume of work but are always competitive, and they include all meetings, phone calls and emails so you will never feel like you’re on the clock.

Staff always want to be paid exactly the right amount of money, and on time. But payroll is surprisingly complex and the rules change quickly. The last few years have seen the process transformed through innovations such as RTI and auto enrolment, and it is difficult for a business owner to keep on top of the latest legislation. When you consider all the tax changes, sick pay, maternity pay and other unexpected issues that may crop up on a weekly or monthly basis, it makes sense to let experts handle it for you.

This is where we come in. Our payroll services are fast, efficient and cost-effective. We have a wealth of experience in running payroll for all circumstances, from paying a single employee once a month to paying over a hundred staff on a weekly basis.

We can provide the following payroll services:

  •  Weekly, Fortnightly or Monthly payslips to all staff by email attachment.
  •  A full auto enrolment service, including pension upload to your provider.
  • Full Payment Submission (FPS) to HMRC.
  • Calculation of your monthly or quarterly PAYE/NIC liability to HMRC.
  • Monitoring of staff holidays and sickness.
  • Accurate deduction or payment of sickness and maternity benefits in line with Government legislation and company contracts.
  • Student loan payments.
  • Completion of payroll year-end routines and reporting.
  • Summary reports for bookkeeping.

Your business will inevitably find itself in a position where customers will either forget to pay you for their services or find they don’t have the money to do so. Many business owners find it difficult to ask their debtors for payment, particularly if they have to remind them more than once. There’s often a worry about negatively affecting existing relationships with customers – no one wants to hassle – but on the other hand, you need the money. You provided the service. You deserve to be paid.

This is where we come in. We offer credit control services for all types of business. Using our knowledge and experience, we follow up outstanding invoices and secure their payment to give you more time to look after your business.

Our methods include:

  • Using email, letters or telephone calls to contact debtors and ensure payment of outstanding invoices.
  • Building good relationships with potential debtors to enable quick and easy debt collection. This enables us to advise on payment plans that will allow all parties to continue trading.
  • Ensuring we work closely with our clients to provide advice on whether a debt is unlikely to be settled or if further action is required.
  • Keeping records of all communication with customers, so there is a clear audit trail in the unfortunate event of payment problems that require legal proceedings.
  • Working with collection agencies to ensure there are no problems with tackling a debt issue.

Our monthly fees are competitive, and clients will often add our credit control services to our monthly bookkeeping service. Our fees include all meetings, phone calls and emails, so when you talk to us, you will never feel like you’re on the clock.

It’s so important to keep a close eye on how your business is going. Are you making the progress you want? Is your profitability where it should be? Unfortunately, the reports that allow you to understand this can be both complex and onerous to produce. So why not let us handle them for you?

We can provide accurate, up-to-date weekly, monthly or quarterly management reports. These are supplemented with face-to-face meetings to explain the progress of your business in detail, and we offer impartial advice on how to maximise your profits going forward, based on the information contained within the reporting.

Our fees for management reporting are competitive and can be included within an overall monthly charge for your general bookkeeping. They include all meetings, phone calls and emails, so when you talk to us, you will never feel like you’re on the clock.

“Linden Accountants are brilliant. They allow me to concentrate on running my sports courses for youngsters without worrying about my finances. They’re friendly and efficient and nothing is ever too much trouble. I can carry on with what I’m good at, and so can they!”

Limited Company?

Limited Companies must submit a set of statutory accounts to Companies House within 9 months of their year end. They must also submit a Corporation Tax Return to HMRC within 12 months of the year end, but any Corporation Tax due is payable within the original 9 months Companies House deadline, so it makes sense to do both jobs at the same time.

The preparation of Limited Company accounts and Corporation Tax Returns is one of our core services. Whether you bring us a carrier bag full of receipts, an Excel spreadsheet marked with income and expenditure, or bookkeeping that has already been fully reconciled on accountancy software, we ensure that your accounts are submitted before the statutory filing deadlines so that no penalties are incurred. We check things with you. We help you do things the right way.

Our fees are competitive and include all meetings, phone calls and emails, so when you talk to us, you will never feel like you’re on the clock.

Starting a business can seem overwhelming, what with the dizzying range of statutory requirements and administration, not to mention having to keep track of and understand all the deadlines. We’ve been through the process ourselves and know what it’s like. Maybe you’re considering switching from being a sole trader to a Limited Company and aren’t sure whether it would be the best thing for your business.

Whatever your circumstances, we can help you through the process of incorporation. From the earliest advice on what status would be most appropriate for you, to completing the relevant forms accurately and liaising with Companies House, we make the process as quick and painless as possible. We even offer aftercare once incorporation has been completed.

“My business partner and I walked in to Linden Accountants after just starting up our own business – we didn’t have a clue in the world about how to even begin managing our book-keeping/accounts/HMRC etc etc. But this was no issue because to our luck, David is an incredibly patient, helpful, honest and humorously charismatic accountant! He has given us so much of his time and taught us an incredible amount (and continues to do so!). He has gone beyond his call of duty and helped us with our financial forecasting, understanding shares, understanding the tax system and loads more! The whole team are lovely and we always feel at home when we visit the office! With fond regards, and highest recommendations, Tess ”

“The team at Linden Accountants have been an important part of my work since I first started as a sole trader many years ago – helping me with invoices, expenses and everything in between. When me and my business partner took the plunge into starting a Limited Company, David at Linden Accountants provided a huge amount of support and advice to help us to understand the many complexities of tax, shares and other accounting best practices. Now that we’ve settled into the day-to-day running of a business, the ongoing support they provide with VAT, pension obligations and payroll is immeasurably valuable.

It’s safe to say their guidance and accounting proficiency has had a massive impact on our business practices, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to sole traders and businesses alike!”

What Makes Us Different

Linden Accountants Limited is a family business that offers a wide range of services to clients in Bristol and the South West, including accounts, bookkeeping, credit control and payroll for a wide variety of clients, from small local firms to companies with multi-million pound turnovers. We are specialists with over 50 years’ combined experience in practice, who utilise our knowledge to help you and your business get ahead.

Reading the above, we wouldn’t blame you for thinking that we sound like any other local accountancy practice. But we’re far from boring number crunchers who get excited by the release of a new model of calculator!

We are 3 brothers – Michael Grant, Steven Baptiste and David Baptiste – and we know there is more to life than numbers. Over the years we all found ourselves joining City Accounts, our business’s former incarnation which was owned by our Mum, Kate.

She ran the accountancy practice for over 15 years, but in 2012 she decided to step down and hand it over to us. At that point we rebranded as Linden Accountants, and when we asked our Mum if she would like to come and work for her sons, she accepted.

Over 5 years later, we are well established as one of the leading small accountancy practices in Bristol.

We have a growing team, a lovely office close to the city centre in St Werburghs, and a collection of valued clients who we hope love working with us as much as we love working with them. You can judge that by the testimonials on this website!

We offer a friendly and professional service which draws on our many decades of combined experience to meet the high standards you expect and deserve. We are proud of our reputation in the Bristol area and beyond, and are always actively seeking new clients to further expand our business.

Whether you’re a pop-up in St Nicholas Market, a developer in the emerging Bristol VR scene or a restaurant on Gloucester Road, by using us you effectively gain a fantastic finance department without having to spend time and money on employing extra staff or buying expensive accountancy software.

We make the management of your business finances smoother, safer and more efficient, leaving you to concentrate on running and developing your core business.

Please look around the site for more information about us and the services we provide. If you require further information or would like to arrange a meeting, please visit the ‘contact us’ page.
